Founded in 2020 by Rob Lee — founder and head instructor of Boa BJJ & MMA and a brown belt in Carlson Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu — EmpowerMat is a registered Canadian nonprofit (CRA #123456789RR0001) based in Kamloops, British Columbia.

How It Works

Register & Compete: Athletes, coaches, and spectators register for EmpowerMat tournaments and events. Each registration supports their affiliated gym.
Raise Funds: A portion of every event's proceeds is allocated back to participating gyms proportional to their registered attendance, creating a sustainable fundraising cycle.
Fund Communities: Collected funds support youth scholarships covering 100% of tuition, equipment grants for under-resourced gyms, and free community training sessions across BC and Alberta.

Programs

Youth Scholarship Program: Full tuition coverage for eligible youth ages 5–18 in BC and Alberta. No GPA or test scores required.
Inclusive Martial Arts Tournaments: Open tournaments where proceeds flow back to participating gyms. Athletes can compete in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), Judo, Karate, and other disciplines.
Equipment Grants: Training gear and equipment funding for under-resourced martial arts gyms.
Community Events: Free training sessions, workshops, and mentorship programs for youth.
Leadership Development: Mentorship programs that help youth build confidence, discipline, and leadership skills through martial arts.
